We celebrated our first Christmas as a family of three today. It was also our first Christmas away from friends and family. Although it was tough being so far from home, we had the opportunity to start some new traditions. We went out for lunch yesterday, more for convenience than tradition. After that we went to the 2 p.m. Christmas Eve service at Southeast. We thought we were so smart going early to beat the crowds...wrong! Half the city of Parker was there to celebrate Jesus with us. It was great to see such a turnout! After church we had to stop by Target for some last minute groceries. We ended up doing our weekly trip just out of convenience since we were already there. That will not be a tradition. I hate being "that person" shopping on holidays, especially since I work more than half of them and know how irritating it is. We kept an old Cordes tradition of sleeping under the Christmas tree. On the 23rd we made a valiant attempt at this with Jason on the floor and me on the couch. It wasn't long until we headed for the comforts of our fluffy bed. Last night we got smart and used the air mattress. We lasted all night! Levi even made a go at sleeping under the tree! (He really just fell asleep playing on my camping pad.)

After church and grocery shopping we came home, made lasagna, had a Christmas photo shoot and opened a few presents. Here are some shots from Cordes Christmas 2009.

Levi had a ton of presents to open. Twenty two to be exact!! Sheesh. Here he is helping me open mine. He loved the wrapping paper. I bet you can't guess what he tried to do with it? If you guessed eat it you're absolutely right. Now you just won a big, sloppy, wet kiss from The Levi Monster! (He also got a lame Cincinnati Bengals bib from my mom that he tried to eat too, but I digress.)

Oh man, Moab could hardly contain his excitement! Staying put while Jason laid his bone down was pure torture for him.

Here's Levi with 17 of the 22 on Christmas morning. He was pretty stoked about that big blue box! Typical kid, goes for the big box. Doesn't he know the best things come in small packages?! Anyways, that box contained Levi's first tractor!

Isaiah gave Levi this bendy ball. I think it's safe to say it's his favorite! (Mostly because he can...yep, you guessed it...eat it.) Going in for the kill...

I wonder if eating plastic is to Levi like eating chocolate cake with white whipped icing is to me. The world may never know...

Ohhh, a dump truck. Let's eat that too!

Okay, in all seriousness we had a great Christmas. We missed everyone and hopefully will never have to do this again. Thank you all for the beautiful gifts. We started a new tradition that we hope to continue in the years to come. We bought a slice of birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday to Jesus. Maybe next year we can share our new tradition with you. Imagine all 16 of us standing around a candlelit cake celebrating the reason for the season. Merry Christmas!
